Robert Stern, author of “HOA Wars: What Happens in Vegas Can Happen Anywhere,” is scheduled to speak at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, N.C. on Thursday, May 7 as part of the gallery’s ongoing Coffee With the Authors series. The event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. and is free to the public. Seating is limited, however, so reservations are requested. Call the gallery at 910.575.5999.

Stern is a successful financial executive and CPA. With homes in Henderson, Nev. And Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., he is one of more than 63 million Americans living under the jurisdiction of homeowner associations, even serving on his Henderson HOA board of directors, which, he says, did not protect him from lawsuits.

The mandatory homeowner association is one of the fastest growing forms of residential housing in the country. In his book, Stern relates his own experiences of HOA boards gone astray, fighting for homeowner rights, recovering $1.2 million for his fellow homeowners, and navigating a range of issues that arise.
