Bird Island Walk at Museum of Coastal Carolina on September 17

The Museum of Coastal Carolina, Katie Hovemale will lead  on a guided tour of Bird Island, one of the few unspoiled barrier islands in NC that you can walk to. On September 17 at 9 AM, meet at the museum for an overview of the history of Bird Island and the efforts that led to its preservation as a State Reserve. Then drive to nearby Sunset Beach where Katie will lead a guided tour of Bird Island. Expect the walk to take about two hours. Wear appropriate clothes and bring bottled water and sunscreen. The walk will end at the Kindred Spirit mailbox. From there, you can continue to walk to the breakwater at the end of Bird Island or you can return to your car. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, Katie will conduct an indoor program at the museum.

The Museum of Coastal Carolina is located at 21 East Second Street in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Admission to the Bird Island lecture and walk is free for Museum members. Non-member Museum admission (includes NC state tax), which includes admission to the Bird Island program, is $9.50 for adults (13-61), $8.50 for seniors (62+), $7.50 for children (3-12), and free for age 2 and under.
