Fall Programs at Ingram Planetarium

Ingram Planetarium begins its fall schedule on September 8, 2016. From September 8 through December 31, 2016 Ingram Planetarium will be open three days a week, Thursday through Saturday. During the fall, doors open at 11:30am on Thursday-Saturday. Movie trailers and complete playlists for laser music shows are available at www.MuseumPlanetarium.org.

Ingram Planetarium is located at 7625 High Market Street in Sunset Beach, NC. Admission is free for members. Non-member per-show admission (including NC sales tax) to see a Sky Theater show is $9.50 for adults, $8.50 for seniors (62+), $7.50 for children (3-12), and free for age 2 and under. Thursday-Saturday Shows for September in the Sky Theater (doors open at 11:30 am, all 3:00 shows are half price admission) All Sky Theatre Shows are followed by a live star show.

12:00—The Sky Tonight – Explore the planets, constellations, and other celestial events visible in the Carolina night sky.

1:00–   Dinosaur Passage to Pangaea–An educational look at the tectonic forces that forged our world.

2:00     Sunstruck –Discover how our star, the Sun, operates, what fuels it processes, how it began and how it might end.

3:00     Back to the Moon for Good—See how competitive teams are working to create a robotic spacecraft to land, traverse and send data from the moon. (Half-price admission)

Thursday-Saturday Shows for October in the Sky Theater (doors open at 11:30 am, all 3:00 shows are half price admission)

12:00—The Sky Tonight! — Explore the planets, constellations, and other celestial events visible in the Carolina night sky.

1:00—Earth, Moon & Sun-NEW!—Learn how these three work together as part of our solar system. Native American stories are used throughout the show to help distinguish between myths and science.

2:00—Undiscovered Worlds— Discover how scientists search for planets outside our solar system called exoplanets.

3:00—Sea Monsters—Learn how paleontologists use fossil evidence to determine how living systems interacted in the past. (Half-price admission)

Thursday-Saturday Shows for November (until November 23) in the Sky Theater (doors open at 11:30 am, all 3:00 shows are half price admission)

12:00—The Sky Tonight!– Explore the planets, constellations, and other celestial events visible in the Carolina night sky.

1:00—Accidental Astronaut– Follow the adventures of Sy, Annie, their dog Armstrong, and a wise-cracking starship computer as they embark on an unexpected journey into space exploring the sun and moon.

2:00–   Oasis in Space—Discover how water first came to Earth and where water has been found on other planets.

3:00—Tales of the Maya Skies—Learn how the Mayans, through understanding astronomy, developed an advanced system of mathematics, which allowed them to create a set of calendars unrivaled in the ancient world. (Half price admission)

Ingram Planetarium’s Holiday Shows run from November 25 through December 31, all 3:00 shows are half price admission)

12:00—Season of Light-NEW!– Why does winter, the coldest and darkest of seasons, hold some of the warmest and brightest celebrations of the year? This eloquent presentation traces the history and development of many of the world’s most endearing holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season – from the burning Yule log, sparkling Christmas tree lights, and the traditional ritual of the Hanukkah Menorah.

STARS AT SUNSET—Find out “what’s up” in the sky each month over the Carolinas! Hosted by Will Snyder, Planetarium Manager on the first Friday of each month at 7:00pm. September 9, October 7, November 4 and December 2.

Experience the Planetarium’s Paul Dennis Science Hall which features several stand-alone interactive multimedia kiosks. Some of the kiosks include short videos that play on demand in either English or Spanish. Admission to the Science Hall is free during regular hours of operation.
