“Family Ties” Mom, Meredith Baxter, to Keynote Addiction and Recovery Lecture At Horry Georgetown Technical College in February

Meredith BaxterThe star of acclaimed comedic and dramatic roles in television and movies, Meredith Baxter, will be keynote speaker at Horry Georgetown Technical College next month as part of the Annual Addiction and Recovery Lecture Series at Burroughs and Chapin Auditorium on the Conway Campus. The series includes three lectures at 7 p.m. on Feb. 26, Mar. 5, and Mar. 12, all open to the public. A free dinner will be served before each lecture at 6 p.m. in Café 1100 adjacent to the auditorium.

HGTC Physics Prof. Casey King, champion of the series, said the purpose of the Addiction and Recovery lectures is to showcase recovery options for addicts and friends seeking to help others overcome addictions and improve their quality of life. “Ms. Baxter has been a recovering alcoholic for 20 years, and she offers an inspiring story of courage, hope, self-acceptance and happiness,” he said. “Millions of people know and respect her and admire her perseverance in recovery. We want everyone to know that recovery is possible and within reach.”

In addition to Baxter’s lecture on Feb. 26, Dr. Kevin McCauley, who served with the U.S. Marine Red Lions, will speak on Mar. 5. A panel of HGTC students, faculty and staff in recovery from various addictions will speak on Mar. 12 about their progress and daily routines toward recovery.
