Myrtle Beach Spring Homes Tour Offers Six Homes with Style, Character – and Whimsy

Six stylish Myrtle Beach homes – from compact to palatial, traditional to ultramodern – will open their doors on Saturday, March 11, for the 17th Annual Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum Spring Tour of Homes.
Tour hours are from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets for the event are $45 in advance, $50 the day of the tour.  A buffet luncheon at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club accompanies the tour. Tickets for the luncheon, served from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., are $22 per person (for Tour ticket holders only.) Reservations are required and can be made through the  museum, 843-238-2510.
Besides displaying design details that range from formal and elegant to delightfully quirky – some of which are sure to provide inspiration for visitors’ own homes – the tour serves as the museum’s major fundraiser. This year’s tour includes:
The Conner Home | 3304 North Ocean Blvd
Two homes for the price of one? This oceanfront “compound” features a three bedroom main house and a two bedroom guesthouse – totaling just over 6,000 square feet – with a pool and hot tub in between. Both feature rich wood paneling and carved woodwork, beamed and coffered ceilings with intricate hand-painted ceiling panels. In the main house, choose between the warm and cozy poolside den with leather sofas and stone fireplace, and the ocean-side den with its massive carved wood fireplace. Don’t miss the exquisitely carved antique mahogany pocket doors to the master suite’s giant walk-in closet or the owners’ three-decade collection of clown figurines by artist Ron Lee.
The Gore Home | 209 82nd Avenue North
This warm, relaxing home belonging to John Gore, owner of B. Graham Interiors, was once a modest beach house. With space reclaimed from a carport and garage bay, it’s grown to a comfortable 2,400 square feet full of antiques, one-of-a-kind furnishings and refined touches. Walk into the sedate first floor master suite – renovated from a garage and maid’s quarters – turn the corner and you’re in a lush jungle complete with leafy jungle-print wallpaper, ferns and two parakeets. These tropical interior aspects are complemented by the exterior landscape featuring a back patio and a lush pool with fountains and a spa, all surrounded by abundant greenery. The main living area on the second floor includes a newly renovated bathroom and a charming Habersham kitchen with cork flooring adjacent to a quaint sun-filled breakfast room. The Gore Home is an all-around intimate space full of character and sophistication.

                                              The Langston Home
The Langston Home | 3800 Waterford Drive, Plantation Point
This 10,000-square-foot, seven bedroom, six bath palazzo offers eye-popping detail after eye-popping detail; from the soaring two-story atrium with intricately layered ceiling to the massive polished marble kitchen island with seating for 12, to the carved and jeweled cabinet pulls. This lavish home includes travertine marble fireplaces and floors including a marble parquet floor in the master suite, and the parade of chandeliers, from Renaissance-style Venetian glass to ultramodern chrome with chain fringe. Be sure to see the expansive patio and multilevel infinity pool overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.
The Leask Home | 5208 Nightingale Drive, Plantation Point
Despite its 4,500-square-foot size, this Mediterranean-style home feels surprisingly intimate thanks to carefully designed spaces. A high-ceilinged great room opens into a formal dining room, a cozy office/den, a master-suite with “rain forest” shower and spa tub, and a cleverly designed parents’ “cottage” – a complete living space with kitchen, sitting room and bedroom suite – that can be closed off for privacy.  Be sure to notice the owner’s collection of South African art: carved animal and human figurines, painted ostrich eggs, and a box intricately carved from a single block of wood. The second floor living space comprises guestrooms, a gym and a media room with wet bar. Exterior features include patios, balconies and a beautiful pool and spa overlooking the Waterway.
                                       The Nardslico Home
The Nardslico Home | 7806 Beach Drive
Walk over a tranquil koi-pond- lined entryway into this ultramodern contemporary home laden with high-tech gadgets: from the remote-controlled entry system and window coverings, and the whole-house entertainment system, to the European stainless-steel kitchen fixtures and appliances. These design elements are nearly eclipsed, however, by the spectacular ocean view through massive, panoramic windows in the spacious living room, furnished in the colors of sand and sea. The airy first floor master suite has his-and-her custom closets and bathrooms. Climb the exquisite walnut and glass spiral staircase, encasing a live tree, to the second floor to view the home theater with plush seating for 12 and home gym with ocean view. Unique exterior features include a plunge pool/hot tub with fountain, a “recycled sea glass fire pit” and a second floor observation deck with lounge area.
The Orosz/Vanderford Home | 964 Corrado Street, Cipriana Park at Grande Dunes
This understated, 2,200-square-foot contemporary home has much of its “wow” power inside, in its owners’ quirky, whimsical art collection. Look up, look down and look all around: you’ll find artworks that amuse, delight and beg for a closer look. Like the colorful wall sculpture of hot-air balloons or the array of humorous portraits; from a knee-high Nefertiti to a ceiling-high dandy in taxicab-yellow jacket and white pants, shoes and hat. And every piece seems to have been chosen to evoke a smile. Other noteworthy home features include an open-concept kitchen with granite counter tops, thoughtfully designed bold and bright-colored rooms throughout, a collection of antique Persian rugs and a cheery garden surrounding the home.
Advance ticket purchases (for credit card and phone orders and luncheon reservations) can be made by calling the Art Museum at 843-238-2510.
