November Events with The Moveable Feast

Nov. 4 ~ Donna Everhart (The Education of Dixie Dupree) at Hot Fish Club, Murrells Inlet

Narrated by her young heroine in a voice as sure and resonant as The Secret Life of Bees’ Lily or Bastard Out of Carolina’s Bone, Donna Everhart’s remarkable debut is a story about mothers and daughters, the guilt and pain that pass between generations, and the truths that are impossible to hide, especially from ourselves. In 1969, Dixie Dupree is eleven years old and already an expert liar. Only when Dixie desperately needs help and is met with disbelief does she realize how much damage her past lies have done. But she has courage and a spirit that may yet prevail, forcing secrets into the open and allowing her to forgive and become whole again.

Nov. 11 ~ Stephanie Dray & Laura Kamoie (America’s First Daughter) at Ocean One

th-1

In a compelling, richly researched novel that draws from thousands of letters and original sources, bestselling authors Dray and Kamoie tell the fascinating, untold story of Thomas Jefferson’s eldest daughter, Martha “Patsy” Jefferson Randolph – a woman who kept the secrets of our most enigmatic founding father and shaped an American legacy. As Thomas Jefferson’s oldest daughter, she becomes his helpmate, protector, and constant companion in the wake of her mother’s death, traveling with him when he becomes American minister to France. There, at 15, she learns about her father’s troubling liaison with Sally Hemings, a slave girl her own age. As scandal, tragedy, and poverty threaten her family, Patsy must decide how much she will sacrifice to protect her father’s reputation, in the process defining not just his political legacy, but that of the nation he founded.

The Moveable Feast is held at area restaurants throughout the year on Fridays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. On occasion, an author’s book tour schedule is accommodated with a mid-week or even a Saturday Moveable Feast. For each feast, the chef prepares an exquisite menu, typically unavailable during the restaurant’s public hours. The presentation precedes the meal. Individuals, couples, friends, book clubs and other groups are assigned table seating. Each literary luncheon is followed by a book signing at Litchfield Books for those unable to participate in the feast. Each feast is $25 (occasionally more when the book is included); books are available at a 10% discount from Litchfield Books.
