Crafty Beerfest A Success in Conway, SC

One of the fall’s special treats for craft beer drinkers was the Crafty Beerfest, sponsored again by Crafty Rooster Bar & Restaurant, in Conway’s downtown warehouse-style gathering spot.

More than 100 choices of craft beer, live music and a bit of food kept crowds happy for an afternoon and evening event.

Bluffton International & Craft Beer Festival Coming Soon

The 5th Annual Bluffton International & Craft Beer Festival will be held in Old Town Bluffton, SC at The Oyster Factory Park on the May River on Saturday, November 7th.

This year’s Bluffton International & Craft Beer Festival will continue the tradition of offering an exceptional selection of more then 160 beers from around the world, featuring more than 30 styles from over 70 breweries.

The international tasting event is from 1-5 pm and will feature a food court, vendors, and live music from The Will Snyder Band and The Neil & Bob Band.

You must be 21 or older and have a Beer Festival ticket to enter the International & Craft Beer Festival Garden. There is no admission charge to enter the Food Court, Vendor Village, or listen to the live music.

Festival Tickets are $35 / $40 at door. A limited number of VIP tickets are also available $45 / $55 at door. A Beer Festival Souvenir Sampling Glass and beer samples are included with a festival ticket. Additionally, domestic beer, wine, and soft drinks are available and there will be sweets plus other goodies for sale in the food court.

A shuttle service will be offered that includes round-trip, $10 tickets, with service from The Lodge on Hilton Head to the festival while supplies last. A limited number of 42 shuttle tickets are available for sale.

Discount taxi service is available in Bluffton, Okatie and Beaufort from Yellow Cab 843/686-6666.

A portion of proceeds from the event will go to benefit Palmetto Animal League. No outside food or drinks will be allowed. Dogs should be leashed at all times.

Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance Names Honorary Chair

The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance will celebrate its thirteenth year in the fall of 2014. The festival kicks off with the Savannah Speed Classic, October 24 – 26, on the Grand Prize of America road course situated on the property of The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. The festivities will continue on Hilton Head Island, SC, November 1 – 2, at Port Royal Golf Club where the Concours d’Elegance (November 2) will take center stage. The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance, one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing automotive and motorsports enthusiast event weeks, has named Edsel B. Ford will be on-hand during the 2014 festival serving as a guest judge for the Concours d’Elegance, the core of the Motoring Festival, on Sunday, November 2 at the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head Island. In addition to his appearance at the public event on Sunday, the schedule includes a special appearance by Ford at an exclusive fundraising event that Saturday evening, November 1 for Driving Young America, the festival’s charitable fund.

In addition to Ford’s participation as the honorary chairman, several other notable names in the industry are scheduled to appear  including Bobby Rahal, a member of the Motor Sports Hall of Fame;  Hurley Haywood, called the most prolific sports car endurance driver;  J. Mays, former chief creative officer at Ford Motor Company and Ian Callum, director of design for Jaguar Cars.

Blues Harmonica Master Lee Oskar Headlines at Cape Fear Blues Festival

Blues fans are in for a special treat when the Cape Fear Blues Society welcomes blues harmonica master and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee Lee Oskar to Wilmington during the 19th Annual Cape Fear Blues Festival. There’s no one in the music world quite like Lee Oskar. He is a founding member and former lead harmonica player for the 1970s funk/jazz band, WAR. His signature harp solos helped define the WAR sound (think “Cisco Kid” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends”). In 1976 he earned Billboard’s title of #1 Instrumental Artist of the Year. In 1983 he created a successful line of Lee Oskar Harmonicas. In recent years Oskar has performed and recorded solo. By his own admission his harp playing has become more aggressive, evolving into a lead instrument. As this year’s Special Guest at the Cape Fear Blues Festival, Lee Oskar will perform at several events, along with touring blues artists, noted regional performers, and talented local blues musicians performing in a variety of genres. NORTH CAROLINA AZALEA FESTIVAL, AN EPIC CELEBRATION OF SPRING

There’s no place like Wilmington, North Carolina and its island beaches during the spring when millions of azaleas are bursting with colorful blooms. The lush flowering landscape provides an idyllic backdrop for an epic Southern-style celebration known as the North Carolina Azalea Festival, a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event. The 67th Annual North Carolina Azalea Festival will be held April 9-13, 2014 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

As the stage is set in early April, Wilmingtonians invite friends, family and visitors to help celebrate the season with Southern hospitality, style and fanfare. An annual tradition since 1948, the North Carolina Azalea Festival pays tribute to the rich history, arts, culture and natural beauty of Wilmington, North Carolina’s historic river district and the island beaches of Carolina BeachKure Beach, and Wrightsville Beach.  Perennial festival highlights include the Cape Fear Garden Club’s Azalea Belles who dress in hoop skirts to greet visitors and honor an era past. There’s also an elaborate 3-hour parade on Saturday morning, complete with azalea-laden floats, marching bands, clowns, show animals, local pageant winners and celebrity guests, including Queen Azalea (TBA). This year’s parade includes a Best Entry contest. There are also juried arts and craft shows, a traveling circus, fireworks (Saturday night), and a street fair (Sat./Sun.) with exhibits, vendors, live entertainment and kids’ activities.

Live music is a big part of every N.C. Azalea Festival. This year’s headline acts include the quintessential jam band Widespread Panic and country artist Justin Moore’s “Off The Beaten Path” tour with fellow musicians Randy Houser and Josh Thompson.WidespreadPanic_013

Widespread Panic is an Athens, Georgia rock band that’s risen to elite status among American jam bands since its formation in 1986. The current lineup includes John Bell, John “JoJo” Hermann, Jimmy Herring, Todd Nance, Domingo S. Ortiz, and Dave Schools. Renowned for packed live performances, Widespread Panic is often compared to jam band legends such as the Grateful Dead and Phish. Widespread Panic will perform two concerts during the N.C. Azalea Festival on Friday, April 11th and on Saturday, April 12th. Both Widespread Panic concerts begin at 8:00 p.m. and gates open at 6:00 p.m.

Justin Moore, a two-time American Country Award nominee, released his third album “Off The Beaten Path” last fall. His number one hits include “Small Town USA” and “Til My Last Day.” On Thursday, April 10th, fans can enjoy Moore’s trademark rowdy, sentimental performance with opening acts by up-and-coming country artists Randy Houser (“How Country Feels”) and Josh Thompson (“Way Out Here”). The Off The Beaten Path concert begins at 8:00 p.m.; gates open at 6:00 p.m.

All headline concerts are outdoors on the Miller Lite Main Stage at the Cape Fear Community College Campus in Downtown Wilmington (411 N. Front Street). Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest Scheduled

The 2014 Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest is extended to a week full of seafood inspired events and unique dining experiences

The 7th Annual Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest, hosted by the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation and presented by FORK&FUN.com and Hilton Head Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, is pleased to announce this year’s  events Sunday, March 30 through Saturday, April 5, 2014.

“This year’s Seafood Fest is a prototype for what the festival is to become. A full week of celebrating our seafood heritage, the island’s culinary revival, and the bounty of our local waters,” said Andrew Carmines, general manager for Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks, who also serves as chairman of the Board for the David M. Carmines Foundation.

The event serves as the foundation’s annual fundraiser with proceeds – from admissions, beverage sales, restaurant purveyor fees and auction funds – benefiting MD Anderson Cancer Research Center, the Island Recreation Scholarship Fund and the American Cancer Society.

Those looking to broaden their seafood horizon will be rewarded with plenty of options starting with a Kick-off Crawfish Boil at Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks Sunday, March 30 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM. Lowcountry Seafood Experience on the Water

Two of the Lowcountry’s foremost watermen, Christopher and Matthew Shoemaker, will take a few lucky islanders on a 2 hour excursion. The trip will include instruction on shrimping, oystering, clamming, and crabbing. Christopher and Matthew will demonstrate the skills required to “put food on the table”. After the work is done, guests will have their catch prepared at Hudson’s and will enjoy the fruits of their labor. Time might vary based on tide conditions.

Sunset “Omakase” 10 Course Sushi Dinner Cruise Aboard the Tammy Jane

Probably the most unique event of the week, sushi master Di Wang will prepare sushi aboard the Tammy Jane, while Captain John navigates the picturesque waters surrounding Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge. Di trained in California under Nobu Matsuhisa and is truly a wizard with sushi. Di will prepare an “Omakase” or “chef’s choice” menu, utilizing the finest local and imported fresh seafood. Local oysters, fish along with favorites like sea urchin, lobster and more, will be served as the sun melts into the Intracoastal Waterway. Wine and sake will be provided by Ben Arnold Beverage. In case of inclement weather, the cruise will take place on Thursday, April 3. This event is extremely limited on space, so please reserve now.

Hilton Head Wingfest

The Island Recreation Association and Hargray Communications are proud to present the 19th annual Wingfest where over 6,000 lbs of chicken wings will be served. Wingfest will be on Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 11 am-6 pm at Shelter Cove Community Park in Hilton Head, SC.

Admission is $6 with children 10 & under free. Concessions and activities sold separately.

As many as 15 to 20 local restaurants will cook their best wings to compete for the 2014 Best Wing of Hilton Head. There will be many activities such as a kid’s zone, rock climbing wall and bungee jump. Catch a March Madness game on the big screen provided by Custom Audio Video. Stop and view some of Hilton Head Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram’s new model vehicles. Live music will be provided by Lyn Avenue, Deas Guyz and Jacob & The Good People.

People’s Choice Award is back again but make sure to turn in your votes before 4 pm. The professional judging for the best wing starts at 12:00 pm.

The Tailgate will be on Friday, March 21st from 5-8 pm at Shelter Cove Community Park.  Local restaurants will break out their best game day dips, wings, pots of chili and grilled recipes for the first ever Wingfest Tailgate. Restaurants will compete against each other in a March Madness Food Bracket Cookoff. Celebrity judges will judge each of the restaurants on most team spirit and best tasting tailgate food. It will be an evening of music, kid-friendly events, happy hour prices and restaurant rivalry.  Live music by The OCD Band.

Team Trophy Quest’s cook B-Bob will present three cooking demonstrations, one on Friday night and two on Saturday. He will show how to cook turkey wings with his own twist! They will also be filming, Trophy Quest, and showcasing 2014 Wingfest!
