We see thousands of children each year and go through a lot of golf balls! So tell your neighbors, family and friends so you can gather up and donate all of those excess golf balls to a great cause! No amount is too small!

Calling All Creative Minds!

Are you the creative type with lots of great ideas? Are you good with tools and like to make things? If so, we have the job for you! We are looking for members of our community that would be willing to create “Golf Club Art” pieces to be used as auction items at some of our upcoming events. We have been saving some of our “more experienced” golf clubs at The Golf Park at Cinghiale Creek for this special project. If you would like to get those creative juices flowing and make a one of a kind Golf Club Masterpiece to be auctioned off, please let Shannon know. Some examples of things that can be made are shown below! Shannon can be reached at 910-754-5288 or shannon@thefirstteebrunswickcounty.org

Thirty-One High School Golf Teams Prepared to Compete in 18th Annual Palmetto High School Golf Championship

Teams From 7 States, Including Texas and California, are Traveling to Myrtle Beach To ParticipateDurham-Academy_TEAM

Thirty-one teams from seven states are poised to begin play in the 18th annual Palmetto High School Golf Championship, which will be played March 24-26 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The 54-hole, college style event begins on Thursday with a qualifying round at True Blue Golf Club. Based on qualifying scores, teams will then be flighted for 36 holes of stroke play competition.

“The Palmetto High School Golf Championship is a wonderful event, “ Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director, Jeff Monday, said. “The tournament attracts some of the nation’s best young players, and just as importantly, it will introduce the next generation of golfers to Myrtle Beach and two of America’s premier courses.”

The Friday and Saturday rounds will be played at True Blue and its sister course, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, both of which are ranked among America’s top 100 public courses.

Caledonia is ranked 24th on Golf Magazine’s list of the Top 100 You Can Play, a ranking of America’s best public courses, and True Blue is 77th on the prestigious list. Both layouts are Mike Strantz designs that offer distinct, yet equally dramatic and memorable experiences.

Caledonia, which is equal parts art and architecture, plays through a stunning piece of lowcountry land that was once home to a thriving rice plantation. A round at True Blue, while completely different from a design perspective, is no less captivating. Strantz used waste bunkers, which frame many of the course’s fairways, to craft a layout that is among the area’s most visually stunning.

Defending champion Durham Academy is returning to defend its title against teams from South Carolina, California, Louisiana, North Carolina, Maryland and Texas.

Current PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler, the 2006 champion, and Harris English are among the Palmetto’s distinguished alums.

Golfers From 22 States, Italy, Uruguay and Canada Will Flock to Second Annual Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic

MB-PreseasonNearly 200 golfers are preparing to descend on the Grand Strand for the second annual Myrtle Beach Preseason Classic, which has attracted players from 22 states and four countries and will be played February 1-3, 2016, on six Myrtle Beach golf courses.

A 54-hole, two-man team event, the Preseason Classic will feature a different format of play each day and players will be flighted based on their USGA handicap. Teams will play best ball in the opening round, followed by combined net team score and a Texas Scramble.

The host courses are Arrowhead Country Club, The Wizard, River Club, Blackmoor Golf Club, the Norman Course at Barefoot Resort and True Blue Golf Club.

The event’s international players will be coming from Canada, Italy and Uruguay and among the 22 states represented will be Alaska. Temperatures during the event are forecast to be in the 70s. For more information or to follow the event, go to MyrtleBeachPreseason.com.

“We’ve got another great field for an event that is carving out a spot on the Myrtle Beach golf calendar,” said Jeff Monday, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director. “With most of the country firmly in winter’s grasp, the Preseason Classic gives players a chance to escape to some of the Grand Strand’s best courses and enjoy the game they love.”

Each competitor will receive a Greg Norman pullover and $20 PGA Tour Superstore gift card upon registration, and the event will conclude with an awards luncheon after the Wednesday round.

Arrowhead Country Club is a 27-hole facility that has several holes that play along the Intracoatal Waterway. The Raymond Floyd design is renowned for it’s conditioning.

The Wizard, a links style design that offers a taste of Scotland, is one of the area’s most playable courses and it features pristine bentgrass greens. With generous fairways framed by mounds covered in native vegetation, The Wizard delivers an enjoyable experience.

Blackmoor Golf Club is the only Myrtle Beach golf course designed by Gary Player. The course is most known for the 370-yard, par 4 eighth hole that allows players to try and drive the green through a chute Player carved amongst the native pines.

A South Strand institution, River Club is one of the area’s most popular courses, highlighted by the risk-reward, par 5 18th hole that is one of the area’s best.

The Norman Course at Barefoot Resort is one of Myrtle Beach’s premier layouts, highlighted by four holes on the back nine that bring the Intracoastal into play.

True Blue, a Mike Strantz masterpiece, is ranked among America’s top 100 public courses by both Golf Magazine and Golf Channel. Everything about the course is big – fairways, greens and most of all the fun.

Myrtle Beach 2015 Golf Hall of Fame Inductees Enshrined

Marketing pioneer Sandy Miles and Phillip Goings, the long-time caddy master at the Dunes Club, were inducted into the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame September 17 at Pine Lakes Country Club.

Established to pay tribute to the men and women who have played significant roles in the development of the Myrtle Beach area golf industry, the Hall of Fame was founded in 2009.

“Sandy Miles and Phillip Goings are richly deserving of their place in the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame,” said Bill Golden, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s president. “Both men were vital to the area’s growth in different ways, but they shared common goals: a desire to do their job to the best of their ability and to make every Myrtle Beach golf trip a memorable one.”

Big ideas and an equally big personality made Sandie Miles an instrumental part of Myrtle Beach’s growth into the game’s premier golf destination.

After serving in the Army, including a tour in Germany, Miles returned to Myrtle Beach and took over Pine Lakes Country Club. He immediately set about raising the course’s profile and was wildly successful.

He coined the venerable Robert White design as the Granddaddy, ensuring everyone knew Pine Lakes was the birthplace of Myrtle Beach golf. ?
It was Miles’ idea to serve clam chowder at the turn and he brought Rolls Royce golf carts to the course, marketing ideas that attracted national attention for years.

While Miles is most known for his success at the Granddaddy, he also worked alongside fellow Hall of Famer Cecil Brandon to help launch Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.

As important as architects and golf course owners are the people on the ground greeting players and providing the Southern hospitality that has served as one of the Myrtle Beach’s primary assets. No one brought a smile and unquestioned expertise to his job longer than Phillip Goings, the former caddy master at the Dunes Club.

Goings started at the club as a dishwasher but moved outdoors, where he became the head looper at Myrtle Beach’s most famed course. A razor sharp memory made Goings an outstanding caddy and his personality endeared him to Dunes Club members and guests alike.

Fellow Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Famer Jimmy D’Angelo once said of Goings, “He treats everybody like they are the President of the United States … He’s the world’s best.” ??Goings worked at the Dunes Club for 50 years, setting a standard for work ethic and customer service that served entire Myrtle Beach golf community well.
