Military Appreciation Days in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach’s Military Appreciation Days is a month-long celebration in May of our military men and women, and the city celebrates with a jam-packed schedule of events.  The celebration includes the Military Appreciation Days parade, to be held on Saturday, May 27, on Farrow Parkway at Grand Park. The Military Appreciation Committee is returning the parade and picnic to the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend at The Market Common.  Come meet Grand Marshal Alek Skarlatos that Saturday and enjoy the Big Family Picnic, various exhibits and a live performance by the Andrew Thielen Big Band.  

Second annual Horry County JR ROTC Drill Meet, 9:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6 – A competition among local high school ROTC drill teams, at the Pelicans’ stadium.  Free.

Military Family Members Event (Blue Star Mothers), 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 6 – Event follows the JR ROTC Drill Meet in the Picnic Area at the Pelicans’ stadium.  New and prospective military families are encouraged to attend to learn from current and former military members and their families.  Free.

Military Appreciation Days Dinner Dance, 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25 –The event features delicious food and a live band in the Ballroom at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel.  Tickets are $30 per person and are available at City Hall or from one of Horry County’s veterans groups, especially Vietnam Veterans of America.  (You do not have to be a veteran to attend.)  Come dine and dance with us!

Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ Military Appreciation baseball game, 7:05 p.m., Saturday, May 13 The game honors military veterans (gates open at 5:00 p.m.), at TicketReturn.Com Field.

M.O.A.A. Grand Strand Golf Tournament, Thursday, May 25 – Registration and lunch begin at 12:00 p.m.  The tournament kicks off with a shotgun start at 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Golf Course.

Military Appreciation Days Parade, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 27 – Parade takes place along Farrow Parkway at The Market Common and features Alek Skarlatos as Grand Marshal.  Free.

Big Family Picnic, Alek Skarlatos, Music, Exhibits and more, 12:00 p.m., Saturday, 27 – Immediately after the parade, the picnic event begins in Valor Memorial Garden and features exhibits, live music from the Andrew Thielen Big Band.  The Omar Chef Shriners provide the picnic fare.  Free.

Memorial Day Veterans’ March, 9:00 a.m., Monday, May 29 – Veterans come together to march side by side along Ocean Boulevard, from 16thAvenue North to Ninth Avenue North.

Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony, 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 29 – The ceremony is sponsored by the City of Myrtle Beach’s Military Appreciation Days Committee and takes place at the Convention Center Plaza.  Music begins at 10:30.  Free and open to the public.

Memorial Day Tribute Film, 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 29 – The annual film is shown at Grand 14 Cinemas, located at The Market Common.

Enlist NOW for the first “Veterans Beard and ’Stache Beach Bash” contest, Saturday, May 25, as part of Military Appreciation Days. It’s free to enter, with the competition as part of the big family picnic on the Pavilion site, after the Memorial Day Weekend parade. Categories include: Full Beard, Trimmed Beard, Partial Beard, Styled ’Stache, Natural ’Stache, Goatee, and Ladies’ Faux.
