Have a Peachy Day!

CSC 00621 Have a Peachy Day!

Meet Diane at K & M Produce Truck, and you’re sure to have a peachy day! Her smiling face and truck full of luscious produce bring a welcome sight to a busy Myrtle Beach street corner from spring through fall.

If it’s fresh this season, you can get it here. Locals and visitors alike count the weeks till the truck appears.

This week look for juicy ripe red (or ready-to-fry green) tomatoes, new potatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, green beans, onions, corn…maybe more. If she knows you, she might even plant something especially for you next season!

“Berries are in trouble, but they’ll be here soon,” Diane’s sign said. If her locally grown items are not available, she will sometimes find it elsewhere.

Check on the truck for the posted schedule, watch the weather, follow on Facebook for updated details or call to get the scoop on when to find the best tasty treats on the street in Myrtle Beach. It’s in the Rite Aid parking lot on the east side of U.S. Business 17 at  79th Ave. N.

Will of a Woman: Rebecca Folsom in Concert

Will of a Woman: Rebecca Folsom in concert @ ARTworks in Beaufort, SC
Saturday, May 4, 7:30pm in Beaufort Town Center
Rebecca Folsom at ARTworks Will of a Woman: Rebecca Folsom in Concert“Folsom shines on the mellow, almost spiritual ballads, a cross between Joni Mitchell’s lush, soul-searching folk jazz and the Cranberries’ mystic pop.” — Daily Camera
When Rebecca sinks her teeth into a song, an emotional intensity emerges that is both deeply stirring and joyously transcendent. Her performances cover the human landscape from humorous, sexy, life challenging and inspirational to heart opening and spiritual. With an equal dose of angel and little devil, she is capable of offering the most tender of ballads then effortlessly engaging a wide-open Rock & Roll cathartic release. She appears to be channeling something a lot larger and wilder than her small frame might first suggest.
Folsom believes music is all about sharing the human connection, feeling our joys and sorrows, and always offering a bit of hope. She shines when performing in a spare acoustic setting and then explodes with the blazing intensity of her band: audiences are in for an uplifting, joyous, and truly moving musical ride. Rebecca has been writing and performing professionally for over 17 years, and has played on BBC television/radio, Red Rocks Amphitheater in CO, The Bluebird and Opryland in Nashville, TN, Falcon Ridge Festival, NY, Kerrville Folks Festival, TX, and Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, CO.
A true renaissance woman, she has released 10 CD’s, 2 books of poetry, and numerous paintings of fine art. Her newest project, Reunion, released this year has brought all these creative genres together, joining a work of art and piece of prose with each recorded song.
”Her songs hit like little earthquakes, Rebecca shares a blues bent and a vocal prowess of Susan Tedeschi.” — Westword Magazine

Fore! Images of Golf in Art

LMgtlS u9JY Zs58 g88c7arfOl0R3vT1 Gp IRnH04 Fore! Images of Golf in ArtMyrtle Beach is the Golf Capital of the World and the perfect location for an art exhibition dedicated to the people, places and accoutrements of the sport of golf.   Fans tout its 100-plus golf courses – many of them designated Best You Can Play by major golf publications – and its sunny, hospitable climate. Its first golf course, at Pine Lakes Country Club, opened in 1927, a full 11 years before the city was incorporated in 1938.

So, what better time and place for an art exhibition about that compelling (and often maddening) game than this spring and summer at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Fore! Images of Golf in Art opens Sunday, April 28 and runs through September 15.

Myrtle Beach is home to 102 area golf courses and host to nearly a dozen annual tournaments, from the highly publicized Hootie and the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament and Golf Holiday’s Golf.com World Amateur Handicapped Championship to smaller-scaled contests for firefighters, high-schoolers and families.

Fore! Images of Golf in Art was organized with the assistance of Harmon-Meek Gallery in Naples, FL, the United States Golf Association, private collectors and regional museums.  The exhibition features more than 40 works of art celebrating the game of golf by nationally known artists like Will Barnet, Ray Ellis and Leroy Neiman as well as others known primarily in the golfing world. Works in watercolor, oil and sculpture depict many of the all-time greats of the sport: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Bobby Jones and the legendary Babe Didrikson.

Other images feature some of the most well known courses in the country, including Augusta, Ballybunion, Cypress Point, Merion, Royal St. George and Pebble Beach. Rounding out the exhibit are several pieces on loan from The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, the second-oldest course in the area, which opened in 1948.  The Dunes Club will host the PGA Professional National Championship in 2014.

Fore! Images of Golf in Art is the perfect adjunct to a golfing vacation, or perhaps the perfect alternative activity for one of those less-than-perfect days to play.

Gallery hours for the exhibit will be from 10 a.m - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1 - 4 p.m. Sundays. Admission to the Art Museum is always free, but donations are welcome.
