WINERIES CELEBRATE NC WINE AND GRAPE MONTH

Wine lovers will have plenty of ways to celebrate the state’s $1.7 billion wine and grape industry this September during North Carolina Wine and Grape Month. The annual celebration aligns with the traditional harvest season of grapes across the state.
“There are more than 180 wineries in North Carolina, and each location is as unique as the wines it offers,” said Whit Winslow, executive director of the N.C. Wine and Grape Council. “One of the best ways to experience North Carolina wineries is by visiting them in person with family and friends.”

Lu Mil Vineyard, North Carolina’s largest and oldest farm winery, will celebrate all month with u-pick grapes, free wine tastings, alcohol free tastings, farm tours, educational opportunities and more! When dining out locally, enjoy award winning North Carolina wines from Lu Mil Vineyard at Giorgio’s Italian Restaurant of Elizabethtown and Village Station Restaurant of Lumberton. Continuing the celebration, Lu Mil Vineyard will host its Annual NC Grape Festival on Saturday, October 8th.

North Carolina is the 10th largest producer of wine in the nation. The state has 525 commercial grape growers that produce about 2,300 acres of grapes annually. The wine and grape industry employs nearly 8,000 workers across the state. Consumers can find a list of N.C. wineries with maps and contact information online at http://bit.ly/NCWineries. More information about the industry is available at www.ncwine.org.
