The Museum of Coastal Carolina’s Schedule

The Museum of Coastal Carolina continues the summer season programs through September 5, 2016. The Museum is open 10-8 Monday-Thursday, 10-5 Friday, and 10-1:30 Saturday. The museum is located at 21 East Second Street in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Admission is free for members. Monday

11:00 – Touch Tank Feeding – Help docents feed the live animals in the Touch Tank

3:30 – Odyssey of the Sea Turtle – Learn about the life cycle of sea turtles

6:00 – Mysteries of the Sea – Marine animals: Learn to differentiate myth from reality

Tuesday

11:00 – Shell Sleuths – Learn about local sea shells and the animals that live in them

3:30 – Ocean Reef Explorer and Gyotaku Fish Printing – Learn about marine animals, then make a fish print using a Japanese technique called Gyotaku

6:00 – Sand Bar Lecture Series – Sponsored by OIB Surf & Java – Dates/topics:
— July 26 — The Ins & Outs of Surfing – presented by Jesse McCrery, OIB Surf & Java
— August 2 – Severe Weather Safety & East Coast Tsunamis – presented by Sandy LaCorte, National Weather Service in Wilmington

Wednesday

11:00 – Touch Tank Feeding – Help docents feed the live animals in the Touch Tank.

3:00 – Ocean Isle Beach Fire & Rescue – Kids: Learn fire safety techniques and climb aboard a fire truck! This activity is based on the weather and the availability of OIB F&R staff.

3:30 – Commotion in the Ocean – Kids: Learn about the animals you might encounter in the ocean as well as some basic beach safety rules.

6:00 – Beachy Bingo – Play bingo on a card featuring museum exhibits, then use your card to explore the museum.

Thursday

11:00 – Forensics in the Sand – Kids: Make a set of your own fingerprints and learn about forensic identification techniques.

3:30 – Shark Hunt – Learn about sharks, then dig for shark teeth in the museum’s fossil pit.

6:00 – Snakes Alive! – Meet live snakes and reptiles up close and personal. Live feeding precedes the program.

Friday

11:00 – Touch Tank Feeding – Help docents feed the live animals in the Touch Tank.

6:30 – Free concert in the museum’s parking lot – Sponsored by OIPOA – Bring a beach chair and a cooler and enjoy the music.
