American Airlines to Launch New Hilton Head Island Routes

American Airlines announced the exciting addition of three new nonstop routes to/from the Hilton Head Island Airport (HHH). Starting on March 7, 2020, the airline will add seasonal Saturday flights to/from their great hubs of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The new routes will complement existing American Airlines service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and seasonal Saturday/Sunday service to Washington Reagan Airport (DCA).

“American Airlines is a long-valued partner to our community and the new routes provide incredible options for local travelers as well as for tourists visiting our great destination,” said Mayor John McCann. “We value our partnership with American and are excited to welcome even more visitors to Hilton Head Island by way of the added flights.”

The route will provide several benefits to local residents and Hilton Head Island/Bluffton visitors. It will link the region directly into American Airlines’ DFW, ORD and PHL strong hub airports, offering convenient flight times and additional one-stop access within the network. An Embraer 175 regional jet, equipped with 12 first class seats and 64 seats in the main cabin, operate the weekend flights. The E175 is known for its dual class offering, comfortable interior, and impeccable reliability.

“Hilton Head is an important market with so much to offer – from beautiful beaches to championship golf courses,” said Jason Reisinger, American’s Network Planning Managing Director. “We’re excited to complement our long-running CLT and DCA services with new non-stop service to HHH from DFW, ORD, and PHL beginning this spring. These new flights will make it even easier for customers throughout the world to access all of the wonderful activities on Hilton Head Island.”

“American’s announcement is excellent news for Hilton Head Island and for our surrounding region, said Stu Rodman, Chairman of the Beaufort County Council. “The new routes will provide more options for travels across our region as well as additional access opportunities to visitors wishing to visit our destination.

Jon Rembold, Airports Director for Beaufort County and of the Hilton Head Island Airport, notes, “the combination these three new seasonal, Saturday routes, paired with the year-round, three-daily flights to and from Charlotte and weekend flights from the Island to Washington Reagan Airport, will allow passengers across the country seamless connection opportunities; not to mention the flexibility to tailor travel plans best suited to their needs, specifically during the busy spring and summer seasons. We are thrilled to build upon our strong relationship with American!”
