The Museum of Coastal Carolina’s annual Family Day is March 31 from 10 AM to 2 PM, rain or shine. There will be hot dogs, a bake sale, soda, Kettle Korn and Sunset Slush, as well as games and low-priced crafts and activities for kids. Admission to the museum is free for museum members and Brunswick County year-round residents with valid IDs. Museum admission for non-residents is $3 per person (includes NC sales tax) between 10:00 and 2:00 pm. Family Day activities take place inside the museum and in the museum’s parking lot (weather permitting). If it rains, activities are moved inside the museum. McDonald’s is co-sponsoring Family Day and will be giving each child a free McDonald’s dessert coupon at entry.
This year, crafts for kids include making sea globes, shark tooth and sea shell necklaces, and rocket blasters. Activities include a treasure toss, hole-in-one challenge, and a duck pond for toddlers and the popular fishing-hole game. The folks from Home Depot will be back this year with wood-making crafts and activities for kids. In addition, the Town of Ocean Isle Beach will have representatives from the police and fire departments at the museum to talk to kids. Meet rescued birds from the Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter. Learn about sea turtles by talking to members of the Ocean Isle Beach Sea Turtle Protection Organization. Talk to representatives from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protective Services. Family Day also features Matthew Bookout and his Snakes Alive!
New this spring we will be having a live 60-year-old painting parrot from Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary selling his own paintings (parrot is not painting on site) and donations are welcome. Also this year, we will have The Balloon Guys making balloon animals for donations.
The Volunteer Association will be preselling Boston Butts that can be picked up during the event. The Boston Butts are $30 each with only 60 available. You need to order by end of day, March 23 by calling the museum at (910) 579-1016. Orders are already underway!
